CARTERET – A snow removal company might know something the local weather forecasters have yet to predict because it’s seeking Planning Board approval to store 600 tons of salt and about a dozen plow trucks at a Middlesex Avenue property.

Applicant Executive Snow Control is seeking preliminary and final site plan approval and variances to use property along Middlesex Avenue in a heavy industrial zone as a storage and distribution hub, which is a permitted use in the zone, according to public documents.

Specifically, the applicant is looking to construct a covered bay to store about 600 tons of salt that will be used for snowplow services for the company's commercial customers and mobile storage containers to serve as office space.

The application is scheduled to be heard by the Planning Board on July 26.

The applicant also wants to park about 10-15 plow trucks on the property, along with other snow removal equipment.

Three variances are being sought, one for minimum lot depth in which 500 feet is required and 80 feet exists, minimum front yard setback in which at least 50 feet is required and 31.7 feet is proposed and rear yard setback where a minimum of 50 feet is required and 2.9 feet is proposed.
